Devin's 2015 Christmas Home Tour

Posted by Devin

I have never posted a Christmas home tour on the blog before, but I am just loving the feel in our home this season and thought I would share some photos. Up until a few years ago I had never purchased any Christmas decor of my own and really only had hand-me-down pieces that didn't necessarily fit my personal style or taste. But then I began shopping after-Christmas sales and making my own pieces that I wanted, to create more of a feel that I loved without spending a fortune. We still have a lot of decor that may not be "magazine perfect" but they are sentimental and special to our family and I try to work around them to add my style. I don't really want my home to look like I ordered everything straight out of the same catalog anyways! So without further ado, here is our Christmas home!

Our Christmas tree is pre-lit but only about 10 of the tiny lights decided to light up this year. Ack! Not wanting to buy a new tree right now, my hubs and I quickly strung it with lights and it still managed to look beautiful. The deer sign on the wall and our pallet coffee table were both made by me and I painted and made-over the serving tray.

I spotted a large quilt sign like this over at Lily Pad Cottage and had to have one of my own! My father-in-law built the frame for me out of plywood and wood scraps and I painted my design using a lot of painter's tape and a little bit of patience. ;) I love it! Our stockings are a prime example of where sentiment does not exactly match my aesthetic appeal. The boys just love our "character" stockings whereas my inner-decorator pines for darling white and burlap matching ones. Oh well, the boys win this one!

I just painted stripes on these two walls in our living room and they have really added a lot of style to this otherwise plain corner. I built the pallet sign and hung the marque JOY sign on it, which I found at Target last year. The mercury glass owls are from DownEast Home; the antler, large basket, and tiered tray are from World Market; and the furry throw is from IKEA. The red Mexican blanket and the green one on my leather chair are from... Mexico! lol

I painted this mistletoe sign and a bunch of other wood slice signs last year when my father-in-law cut up a large log for me. This was another design I saw somewhere on Instagram and fell in love with.

This sign was a gift from my husband a number of years ago and was made by a very talented lady who lives in our area. It is two-sided and I get so excited every year to turn it around for Christmas time. Isn't it cute?

Our nativity is a favorite of mine because it was made by my husband while he was serving a mission in Chile. I remember when he shipped it home and I thought, one day that will be my nativity! Ha! Guess I was right! The rest of the decor in this area is from Target, which always knows how to rock  Christmas decor. I purchased most of it in after-Christmas sales.

I kept the decor in the office simple. A few inexpensive wreaths from Walmart, some simple trees from Target's dollar section, a basket also from the Target dollar section that I filled with pinecones, and a little garland and a burlap bow around my deer head. Oh! And a little plaid bow for the ship. Done!

My dining room has been coming together over a lot of years. All of the Christmas trees on my side board were made by myself and a bunch of other women for a church party; I built the pallet box and the log candle holders; and I purchased the deer, pears, and table runner from Target (also from after-Christmas sales).

This is another one of my wood slice paintings from last year. Probably my favorite.

My mom made this cute little snowman sign many years ago and the wreath is from... yes, you guessed it, Target. I made the burlap deer sign below.

And that's our Christmas home! I hope you liked it and found some inspiration here! As I said, it's a good mix of homemade and sale items and sentimental treasures. I know we find it cozy and perfect for the holidays. Merry Christmas, everyone!
